Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the art of blending and using essential plant oils to benefit health. Essential oils form the life force of plants. Each oil has unique properties that can help with various conditions. They can be relaxing, or stimulating, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, aid digestion, arthritis, muscular aches, skin problems, hormone imbalances, regulate blood pressure and boost the immune system.

Aromatherapy massage is the controlled application of these oils, which can have both physiological and psychological benefits. It is usually a gentle, relaxing massage, involving long, sweeping strokes that enable the essential oils, which are diluted in a vegetable "carrier" oil, to enter the system through the skin, but it can also be deep and invigorating. The oils reach the body organs via the circulation and promote healing. They are inhaled during the session stimulating the brain to release enzymes that can have a profound effect on the client's well-being. Massage is the best way of distributing these oils, although they can also be used in baths, inhalations, vaporisations and compresses.

MICHT, NMA Member

I have been practising as a complementary therapist since 1996, after spending twenty-two years in the teaching profession. As a practitioner I aim to support the body's own innate healing system in its work. I believe that complementary therapies have an important role to play, not only in improving health, but in maintaining it also. Much of my work helps clients to relax and break the cycle of stress from which they suffer. Deep relaxation encourages healing and re-energising.
