Counselling

Counselling is sometimes referred to as a “talking therapy”. It gives you the opportunity to talk to another trained person in confidence about aspects of your life which are causing you distress or discomfort. In talking, you can express your emotions in safety, thereby easing tensions.

Talking to someone who gives you their whole attention for a fixed period of time can help you gain relief from emotional distress. This allows you to gain a clearer understanding of how and why you think, feel and behave as you do.

Counsellors do not give advice or tell you what to do. Instead they enable and support you to explore your own issues and to find your own solutions.

Counselling provides a caring and understanding relationship in which you can explore issues as deeply as you wish, in an atmosphere of respect, safety and acceptance. Counselling is about working with your counsellor to help you to develop your own inner resources to live your life in a more acceptable and meaningful way.

Rachael Dean-Revill
Grad Dip in Counselling

I have undergone extensive training in Counselling and have attained a Graduate Diploma in Counselling. For the last four years I have worked as a counsellor in a GP practice and in a voluntary setting. I also have previous experience of working with adults with behavioural problems, survivors of sexual abuse, alcohol issues and people with housing problems or who are homeless. There are many different approaches in Counselling. I work from an Integrative Approach which means I work using techniques from a number of perspectives in order to help you make the most of your sessions.
