Chiropody/Podiatry

We can treat all common foot problems such as corns, callouses, athlete's foot and ingrown nail problems along with cryosurgical treatment of verrucas and warts, biomechanical assessments, orthotics and nail surgery under local anaesthetic.

Podiatry is the standardised international term for what was previously known as Chiropody.

Biomechanics deals essentially with the structure and function of segments of the feet, as they relate to each other, the legs, knees, hips and spine.

The relationship between human motion, gait, foot stability, propulsion and muscle action gives us a basis for determining neutrality and also normal and abnormal body structure.

Lesions such as corns and calluses do not just appear. Bunions and clawed toes are rarely due only to incorrect footwear or family misfortunes! There is always some underlying dysfunction of motion, or history of injury that initiates these painful problems.

If on walking the foot behaves in an irregular or unstable fashion as the body prepares to propel itself forward, tremendous stresses are put on different compartments and components, producing abnormalities in the feet. This in turn gives rise to abnormal foot function, often leading to irregularities of the lower limbs, hip and lower back and even neck.

All our chiropodist/podiatrists are registered with The Health Professional Council.

I qualified from the British Chiropody and Podiatry Association in 1990 and since then have built up my own practice in Sheffield whilst also working within a GP practice. In 1996 I took over the operation of a second practice which has developed into the Parkview Therapy Centre. I am also qualified in cryotherapy for the treatment of warts and verrucas.
